Some jobs do not fit a category. Moving a heavy cabinet to the other room. Taking the old flat-pack wardrobe to the tip. Changing high light globes. Fitting a new letterbox. Putting up Christmas lights. Hanging a clothesline. These are odd jobs, and they are often the ones that sit on the list the longest because nobody knows who to ask.
Leongatha Handyman takes on odd jobs and small rubbish removal across Leongatha, Korumburra, Mirboo North, Meeniyan, Inverloch and the surrounding district.

Small rubbish removal
We remove small loads of household rubbish, old furniture, garden waste and building offcuts left from our own jobs. For large clean-ups or deceased estates, a skip bin or rubbish removal company is usually better value. We use the South Gippsland Shire transfer stations and dispose of items responsibly.
Help with moving
We can help set up a new home: assembling beds, hanging pictures, mounting the TV, fitting curtain rods and putting things where you want them. For long-distance moves, a removalist is the right choice.
The jobs that never fit a category
Every home has a list of jobs that do not belong to any trade. Moving a heavy cabinet so the carpet cleaner can get behind it. Taking down an old clothesline that has rusted through. Removing a broken pergola shade cloth. Swapping the hooks in a hallway. Fitting a new letterbox after the old one was clipped by a trailer. Putting up a hose reel. Fixing the catch on the back gate. Re-hanging a shed door. Taking an old wardrobe apart so it can go to the tip. None of these is big, but together they take up weekends and stay on the list for years.
That is where an odd-jobs visit helps. Send everything you have been meaning to get done, and we will quote each item and work through them in one trip.
Small tip runs
We can take away small loads that come from the job itself or from around the house: offcuts, old fittings, broken furniture, packaging from flat-pack, a few bags of green waste, old fence palings and similar. We take items to the appropriate South Gippsland Shire waste facility or recycling point and sort them where we can, so metal, cardboard and timber do not all go to landfill.
We do not remove asbestos, chemicals, paint tins in bulk, tyres in quantity, gas bottles or anything hazardous. Larger clean-outs, such as a full deceased estate or a whole shed of farm machinery, are better suited to a skip bin or a dedicated rubbish removal business.
Common odd jobs around South Gippsland
- Removing old TV antennas brackets from inside walls and patching holes
- Taking down and disposing of old blinds and curtain tracks
- Fitting new letterboxes, house numbers and hose reels
- Moving and anchoring heavy furniture
- Removing rusted clotheslines and fitting fold-down lines
- Replacing door stops, hooks and coat racks
- Fitting key safes for carers or holiday house access
- Clearing out a shed corner and fitting shelving
- Small repairs to garden structures and raised beds
- Hanging hammock hooks, wall planters and outdoor signs
Farm and acreage odd jobs
On farms and lifestyle blocks around Leongatha, Dumbalk, Poowong and Loch, odd jobs tend to be around the house yard and sheds: a shed door that has come off its track, a workbench to build, a gate catch, a broken step on the back veranda, shelving in the laundry or mudroom, or hooks for coats and work gear by the back door. We do the house and garden side of the property; stock fencing, farm machinery and earthworks are for farm contractors.

Why one visit works better
Every separate trip takes time, especially across a spread-out district. A single visit for ten small jobs is usually much better value than ten separate call-outs. That is why we always ask for your whole list.
The jobs nobody else wants
Every home has them. The shed that has not been sorted for years. The trailer load of old timber and broken furniture behind the garage. The garden bench that needs reassembling, the clothesline that needs moving, the leaves to clear from under the deck before summer. Nothing on the list needs a specialist, but together they take time, tools and a trailer most people do not have.
Leongatha Handyman takes care of odd jobs and small rubbish removals for homes, rentals, farms and businesses across Leongatha and South Gippsland.
Odd jobs we do
- clearing and tidying sheds, garages and under-house storage
- moving furniture within the home or between rooms
- assembling and moving outdoor furniture, play equipment and garden items
- fitting and moving clotheslines, letterboxes and house numbers
- replacing broken hose reels, taps fittings that do not need a plumber, and garden hardware
- putting up and taking down Christmas decorations and lights (plug-in only)
- clearing leaves and debris from around the house, decks and paths
- minor garden structure repairs
- small demolition, such as removing an old shed lining or garden edging
- preparing a house for sale, a new tenant or a holiday season
Rubbish removal
We remove household rubbish, green waste and small loads of building waste from homes and properties. Common loads include old furniture, broken outdoor items, cardboard, timber offcuts, garden waste and leftovers after a renovation. We sort recycling where we can and take loads to the appropriate local facility, such as the transfer stations operated by South Gippsland Shire and Bass Coast Shire.
There are some things we cannot take, including asbestos, chemicals, paint in large quantities, gas bottles, tyres in large numbers and medical waste. These need specialist disposal. If you suspect asbestos, especially in older homes and sheds built before the 1990s, do not disturb it and arrange a licensed asbestos assessor.
Sheds, garages and farm buildings
Sheds in South Gippsland collect decades of things: old fence posts, timber, broken machinery parts, tins of paint, rolls of wire, furniture from a parent’s house. On farms around Dumbalk, Poowong, Loch and Nyora, sheds are often enormous and the sorting job feels overwhelming. We help sort what stays and what goes, take away the rubbish and leave the space organised with shelving or hooks if you want them. Scrap metal can often go for recycling rather than landfill.
Deceased estates and downsizing
Clearing a house after a family member passes away or moves into care is hard emotionally and physically. We work respectfully and at your pace, removing items you have chosen to dispose of and helping prepare the house for sale or rental. We can work alongside family members, op shops and charities who are taking items that can be reused.
Holiday houses
Holiday homes at Inverloch, Venus Bay and Tarwin Lower build up broken beach chairs, old bedding, worn-out outdoor furniture and garden waste. Owners who live in Melbourne or elsewhere often book us to tidy up and remove rubbish before or after the summer season. We can collect keys, work through a list and send photos when finished.

Preparing for fire season
The CFA recommends cleaning up around your home before summer: clearing leaves, removing dead vegetation and moving flammable items such as firewood and rubbish away from the house. We can help with the clean-up and take away the green waste. Areas close to bush, such as around Mirboo North and the Strzelecki Ranges and coastal scrub near Venus Bay, are especially important to prepare.
How loads are priced
Every load is different, so we quote based on volume, weight, access and disposal fees once we have seen photos or the items. We do not list fixed rates because a trailer of green waste and a trailer of mixed building rubbish cost very different amounts to dispose of.
Booking an odd-jobs visit
Write a list, take a few photos, and send them through. We can usually combine odd jobs and rubbish removal with other handyman work in the same visit.
Moving and lifting
Heavy lifting is one of the most common odd jobs: moving furniture between rooms, shifting a fridge so the floor can be cleaned, getting a new mattress upstairs or bringing the outdoor setting out from the shed for summer. We bring trolleys and straps and protect floors and door frames as we go. For whole-house moves, a removalist is the right choice, but for the pieces in between, we are happy to help.
Seasonal swaps
Many households in the area have a seasonal routine: firewood stacked near the house in autumn, heaters out, outdoor furniture stored, then the reverse in spring. We can help with the heavy parts of that routine so it happens on time.
One visit, many jobs
Bundling odd jobs together is the most efficient way to use our time. A morning might include moving a clothesline, clearing a shed, fixing a gate latch, replacing a letterbox and taking a trailer load of green waste to the transfer station. Send the list and we will plan the order.
Helping older residents
Many of our odd-jobs customers are older residents who have lived in Leongatha, Korumburra or Meeniyan for decades and no longer want to climb ladders, lift heavy items or drive loads to the tip. Changing a high light globe in a plug-in lamp, moving pot plants, clearing a spare room or taking old furniture away are small jobs, but they matter. We work patiently and are happy for family members to be involved or kept informed.
Where we work
Leongatha, Korumburra, Mirboo North, Meeniyan, Koonwarra, Dumbalk, Inverloch, Tarwin Lower, Nyora, Loch, Poowong and surrounding areas.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a job too small?
Not really. Small jobs are better value grouped together, so send your full list.
Do you take things to the tip?
Yes, small loads of household and garden rubbish.
Will you take away old furniture?
Small items, yes. Large clean-outs are better suited to a skip or a rubbish removal service.
Can you fit a key safe?
Yes. They are popular for carers, tradespeople and holiday house access.
